William Slim Drive duplication leads list of road promises

A replacement for the speed cameras, the single laned Athllon Drive between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive in Tuggeranong gets a new traffic light for pedestrians.

Average speed cameras are gone, they’re going to rip up Athllon drive for new bus stops and carpark, i guess tuggeranong voters waiting for the athllon drive duplication will wait another 10 years.

“Labor would also spend $6 million across the city on road resealing”….

I hope they wait until the tram tracks are in because they will add to ambulance patient discomfort.

Filling the track grooves at the same time would be a bonus.

Resealing is like applying a bandaid to someone who is bleeding out.

There are so many pot holes in the road the roads look a bit their world in places.
I wonder what the duplication means for the average speed camera? are they going to redo all the intersections as lights or keep up with not really catching anyone?

This announcement will probably please paramedics and their patients travelling around the city in ambulances. It seems the roads are getting worse every year and a smooth ambulance ride without jarring all those on board is becoming more difficult to achieve.

There is also the trend for an increasing number of speed humps and speed “cushions” being installed across the city. Apparently they are causing another set of “comfort obstacle” problems for ambulances on their way to help someone and again in taking them to hospital.

Somehow I don’t think an extra $6M will be enough money to bring many of Canberra’s roads back up to standard.

I’m surprised that William Slim Dr wasn’t duplicated about ten-fifteen years ago in anticipation for Gungahlin’s growth. Give the NCDC of yesteryear points, they planned ahead and reserved spaces everywhere in Canberra for road duplications and would’ve nailed these duplications fifteen-twenty years ago.

The Greens are promising road upgrades? And not objecting to Labor’s extra lane plans? They really want to have their cake and eat it, don’t they!

Why is it that roadworks in the ACT take so long? Aren’t they subject to contracts. At this rate we won’t see completion for years!

Agree with you re the fence. As they erected the support posts it looked like it was going to be a decent noise barrier. Then they put up the cheap wooden fence palings- pathetic. And with no attempted preventative paint work or the like, the graffiti has already started to appear.

In terms of actual construction of the road, majority of the work seems to be focused on the pedestrian bridge near the Clift Crescent intersection. Albeit at the snails pace that seems to be the norm in the ACT

Any idea what “upgrade” means exactly? Another set of lights or a roundabout?
