A still from the CCTV footage of someone starting a fire at Gorman House last month.

Police are seeking public help in identifying a firebug who was caught on camera starting a fire at Gorman House in Braddon mid last month.

Closed Circuit Television footage (shown below) which police have obtained from Gorman House shows a person wearing dark clothing with a hood pulled over their head deliberately starting a fire at a door of Gorman House.

They did this while police and ACT Fire & Rescue were actually at Gorman House trying to put out a different fire in a different part of the building.

ACT Policing are investigating the suspicious fire which occurred on Monday, October 16. Together with ACT Fire & Rescue they went to Gorman House about 5 am that day in response to a fire alarm going off.

While they were dealing with the initial fire, the other fire was started in a different location. The CCTV shows the offender walking to the door, placing an item on the ground and lighting it, before then walking away.

Anyone who can assist police with their investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously but please quote reference 6185596.
