Police have slammed the “poor behaviour “on Canberra roads over the weekend after a woman was apprehended for drink driving in a Woden carpark in the early hours of Monday morning (5 August).
Around 2.20am, police conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving without headlights in a carpark off Corinna Street near the Woden shopping centre.
The 23-year-old female driver was subsequently transported to Woden Police Station where a breath analysis result of 0.259 was confirmed.
She was handed an immediate suspension notice – suspending her right to drive for a period of 90 days – and will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
Police also apprehended a male P-plate motorbike driver who was caught speeding at 130kmh in an 80kmh zone on Drakeford Drive, Kambah on Sunday afternoon (4 August). He was fined $1841 and will lose six demerit points.
An ACT Policing spokesperson said both drivers are facing the loss of their driving licences for poor behaviour on ACT roads over the weekend.
“Police remind Canberra motorists to drive to the speed limit and do not drive if you have been drinking,” the spokesperson said.
“Speed and alcohol are two of the ‘fatal five’ factors contributing to serious and fatal collisions – with three people killed in traffic incidents in the ACT so far this year.”
