Canberra band Sally Chicane are launching their much-anticipated debut album, Internal Monologue this weekend with a rocking line-up of support acts: the Beta Blockers, The Filthy Darlings, and Wesley and the Crushers.
Since forming in 2015, Sally Chicane have released a steady flow of original, fun and catchy punk-infused rock tunes, from their debut EP Consumption to their latest single, Buy Me a Trophy .
Lead singer and guitarist Kristy has had a long music career including playing with Darwin all-girl band Bleach, Hamble and Lodebar. She also set up She-Riff events, which showcases local female musicians at various live events.
Multi-instrumentalist Mick has broad musical interests and also writes the songs with Kristy, and Andrew is the band’s bass player first, while playing in ‘as many Canberra bands as he can’. Drummer Alicia grew up playing in punk bands in the USA and has ‘slotted right in’ with the band since joining last year.
This Wednesday evening, the Canberra Blues Society are hosting a Blues Jam Workshop for budding blues players at the Harmonie German Club. A house band will provide advice and mentoring on how blues music is structured and played in a live band environment.
Another amazing week of live music, poetry, comedy and dance is ahead, with new music launched by Narooma artist Emma Russack and local darlings, Sputnick Sweetheart.
It’s a busy week at the Canberra Theatre Centre, with Filling the Space taking a quantum leap over the dance stage, the Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase in town and more.
And there’ll be everything from Irish Dance, Pink Floyd, and Qwire at the High Court to the Reclink Community Cup launch and a Sunday Singalong to keep you warm through the week.
