The alleged gunman who shot a woman while she was sitting in her car will face court this morning after a three-hour police manhunt on Tuesday morning (5 November).
It is alleged that as a woman parked her car on Dominion Circuit in Forrest, a man got out of a car with a gun and fired at the woman’s vehicle. The woman sustained gunshot and shrapnel wounds and was taken to Canberra Hospital.
The man fled in a silver/blue two-door hatchback with a NSW registration plate on the front and no plate on the back. A territory-wide manhunt ensued and the man was arrested three hours later.
Police also found the hatchback and firearm in the Weston Creek area around 11:00 am.
Officer in Charge of Woden Police Station, Detective Acting Station Sergeant Simon Coady said police devoted significant resources to locating the alleged offender.
“As a result of some excellent police work, officers had a person in custody within three hours,” Detective Acting Station Sergeant Coady said. “I would also like to thank the public for their assistance and willingness in providing valuable and timely information that will help with the ongoing investigation.”
The 27-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, damage to property, attempted aggravated robbery using an offensive weapon, using an unregistered vehicle, driving while disqualified and discharging of a firearm endangering life.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
