Well I’m glad you didn’t teach me, at least I know when to say “affected” and not “effected”…

I think it took a lot of guts for the government to make the decision to close the schools with very low numbers. The expense of maintaining them wieghed against the other pressing expenses for the government, clearly indicated something needed to be done. The problem with the people of Canberra is they think they’re entitled to the best of everything – well – hello – this all costs money and the govt has a very small economic base in which to raise money to provide the things which Canberrans take for granted. Small schools cost money and reduce the availability of choice in regard to the variety of subjects taught. By increasing the number of students at various schools the govt has ensured that these students will receive the best in choice, and teachers will be moved to these schools to ensure this happens. As a former teacher who taught in a school which was effected by a declining student population in NSW I can attest to the disastrous effects this had on the variety of subjects available for the students and the deterioration of morale in both students and teachers. It continually amazes me that Canberrans expect the best of everything but are unwilling to accept that to get this you have to make sacrifices.
