Jenny McInnes this is for stage 2 which is very similar to stage 1. 19 years to break even only after that time will there be an environmental benefit

Emmac Ph, lol. Asked for sources and replies with an opinion piece. Which only accounts for carbon saved from people switching from cars to tram, nothing about the diesel buses being replaced by electric trams powered by renewables

Emmac Ph I cannot see one piece of evidence in the City News opinion piece. It is just that, his opinion with links that go to a website and not a supporting document/piece of evidence or data.
Not enough research, ie the light rail will not have overhead wires and he talks about possible emmissions caused by overheard wires. Not all commuters have modern cars. No data on current traffic. So how can he compare what would be need in the future? The article is flawed.

JeeKay Dee most streets in Turner aren’t wide enough for significant street parking. When people park on my street it makes it single lane

And look at the state we are in. A tram no one wanted except Rattenbery, increased rates, list bus services to the south. Four years of upcoming disruptions to tragic and no backup plan except putting people on a miserable bus service and one could go one. CLAG does not represent Canberrans at all.

Mark Huppert if old housing stick is being replaced, then why are there over 400 empty house and tenants screaming out for repairs and living in houses the should not be lived in. Housing over trams. Oh and lets talk about 100% renewable that was supposed to reduce energy prices. CLAG just managed. 13+% increase in charges for energy. That’s not reducing energy prices.

Luke Ashe they cancel buses that go to useful places even when those buses aren’t near the tram. E.g. Northfield buses

Jorge Gatica this is all part of a much larger project CttL which will include a grasses land bridge over Parkes way that you can walk across from the city to the lake. It will involve lowering Parkes Way some 2m, etc etc

Jorge Gatica correct .. it’s called TOD .. transit oriented development .. research the benefits that most major cities are utilising to reduce the carbon footprint of cars.

.. apartments are about housing an ever increasing population, living in an area over a relatively small footprint.
.. the two together are the basis of TOD.
… The alternative is to expand on the city edges with more and more connecting roads and the resultant traffic jams during peak hour. This is not sustainable .. it spreads our resources including the provision of public transport for those who choose not to own a car.
Whet the ACT gov is attempting to do is to reign in that expansion on our borders.
As they say Rome was not built on a day and Melbourne did not wake up one morning with a complete team system transvering the city.
