ACT Policing has arrested a 49-year-old man in relation to an overnight knife incident at a city restaurant.
Around 6:30pm last night (Tuesday, July 12), an intoxicated male entered the restaurant and requested to see the owner of the establishment.
While waiting for the owner, the man started to verbally threaten staff and then entered the kitchen area, armed himself with a large kitchen knife and confronted the staff in a threatening manner.
The actions of the intoxicated man caused the staff to flee the restaurant and contact police for assistance.
ACT Policing North District Superintendent Mick Calatzis said that in cases like this, the staff of the restaurant did the right thing by leaving and calling police for help.
“Being confronted by someone armed with a knife is frightening. There is no point in potentially losing your life or sustaining a serious injury by confronting someone armed with a weapon,” Superintendent Calatzis said.
The 49-year-old man was located and arrested by police and conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with threat to kill, possess offensive weapon with intent and using a carriage service to menace.
The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
