The Territory has recorded 812 (387 PCR and 425 RAT) new COVID-19 infections in the last reporting period and hospitalisations have dropped slightly from yesterday’s all-time high when 76 people were in hospital with the virus. The previous record was 73 on 27 January this year as the Omicron wave peaked in the ACT.
Today, there are 72 people in hospital with COVID-19. Three of these people are in ICU, but none require ventilation.
The new caseload takes the Territory’s total active caseload to 5880 (3182 PCR and 2698 RAT).
There have been 112,407 (69,736 PCR and 42,671 RAT) infections recorded in the ACT.
The double-dose vaccination rate for the ACT’s five-plus population is 97.1 per cent and 75.6 per cent of residents aged 16 and older have now received a booster.
Of ACT residents aged five to 11, 66.3 per cent have received two doses of vaccine.
The updated vaccination statistics come as new data from ACT Health shows the rate of booster take-up is slower in younger age cohorts.
As of 1 May, 58.5 per cent of 16 to 29-year-olds and 68.9 per cent of 30 to 39-year-olds had received a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, compared to 90.6 per cent for those aged over 70 and 90.6 per cent for people aged 50 to 69.
Since the beginning of the year, approximately 70 per cent of cases with a known vaccination status admitted to ICU had received fewer than three doses of vaccine at the time of their admission and a quarter were unvaccinated at the time of their admission, the data also showed.
Interstate, NSW has reported three deaths overnight and 7793 new cases of COVID-19.
There are now 1548 people in hospital with the virus and 54 people in ICUs around the state.
Victoria has reported 10,031 cases of COVID-19 overnight.
There are now 491 people hospitalised with the virus, while 43 patients are in the state’s intensive care units.
