The Detlev’s Electrical team is charging full steam ahead into the commercial space at a time when many Canberra businesses are looking to replace their appliances with modern, greener options.

For more than 20 years, the Detlev’s professionals have been installing and servicing electrical appliances in homes all over the ACT, and managing director Grae Munro says the time has come to spread their wings.

“We definitely saw a gap in the market, with limited commercial appliance installers and repairers out there,” Grae says.

“The formal launch of Detlev’s commercial division marks the growth of our company and reflects our reputation for high-quality work and hassle-free, easy-going customer service.”

Grae says his team has been building commercial capability over the past 10 years, but is now ready to officially launch the division into the market. Detlev’s is keen to take on more large projects in motels, pubs and clubs, schools, government facilities and residential developments.

The expansion comes at a time when many commercial operations, across the public and private sectors, are seeking to update their electrical appliances to more energy-efficient models, especially following the ACT Government’s recently announced plan for electrification.

“We’re seeing a lot of demand for greener options not just in residential, but in the commercial space too,” Grae says.

“We’ve even got chefs making the switch from gas stoves to more sustainable, hi-tech electric induction cookers.”

He says with plans in the pipeline to “get Canberra off the gas by 2045”, Detlev’s wants to scope out options and design fully electric commercial kitchens for customers “keen to go green”.

The commercial business arm will be overseen by two of Detlev’s senior technicians Tony Maybanks and Luke Sullivan, who have over 50 years’ experience in appliances between them.

“We’d love to hear from anyone with a background in appliance installation, electrical or gas,” Grae says.

Detlev’s is working with Harvey Norman Commercial and has recently fitted out a new commercial appliance showroom in Mitchell.

The team will be working with Harvey Normal Commercial clients on new builds, commissioning equipment and maintaining it over its lifetime.

“We truly are keeping Canberra business switched on,” Grae says.

The new showroom has a huge selection of commercial cooking and catering appliances, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers from top brands including Meiko, Moffat, Merrychef and Miele Professional.

Harvey Norman Commercial ACT general manager Gavin Pound says after partnering with Deltev’s for 15 years on residential and showroom works, the team’s service is “second to none”.

“Recently we have seen them develop their capabilities and capacity steadily within the team, and continuing to build on their long tradition of a simple, fuss-free and professional offering,” Gavin says.

“With the launch of our new and second showroom in Mitchell, we are looking forward to continuing and growing this partnership.

“We have full confidence the new Detlev’s commercial division is the perfect complement to our new hospitality, solar PV and air-conditioning sales offer.

“Having an installation and after-sales service partner ourselves, along with our manufacturing partners we can trust and rely on, will be a game changer for the Canberra market.”

Detlev’s is well known for providing quality installation and after-sales service and repairs for Canberra’s domestic market. Grae says the team plans to “pick up that successful business model and drop it into the commercial appliance game”.

“Whether it’s a new business or a refit, we’ll help source the best appliances to suit each operation and provide routine maintenance and repairs as required.

“We’re a local Canberra business, and we’re just a phone call away from being there as soon as possible.”

Training is keeping team members up to date with the latest appliance trends and technology across the commercial sector.

“Projected growth in the construction industry and the increasing demand in renewable energy, means we are always increasing the capability and capacity within our team,” Grae says.
