Two teenage boys will appear in court charged with multiple offences after a failure to stop for police turned into a collision in Belconnen last night.
About 6:45 pm Tuesday, 27 December, police officers identified a stolen white Jeep being driven in the suburb of Macquarie.
Police followed the Jeep for a short time before activating lights and sirens after it ran a red light.
The driver of the Jeep allegedly failed to stop and drove on the wrong side of the road to get away. Due to the risk to the public, police called off the pursuit.
Soon afterwards, however, the Jeep was involved in a collision with a Mazda at the intersection of Southern Cross Drive and Ross Smith Crescent in Scullin. The two occupants fled the scene on foot but police took two teenagers into custody a short time later.
The driver of the Mazda was taken to hospital for assessment of minor injuries.
A 15-year-old boy was charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and unlicensed driving. He will appear in the ACT Children’s Court tomorrow (29 December).
A 16-year-old boy was charged with riding in a motor vehicle without consent. He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Children’s Court in January 2023.
