PODCAST: The Hoot on political fallout from the Voice, Floriade and oversized cars

The Hoot is here (and Genevieve is back behind the mic with her friendly foe, Mr Murtagh) for another dive into Canberra – and national – events and issues, starting with the Voice.

We won’t argue the rights and wrongs of the decision. The nation spoke, deciding the proposed alteration to the constitution isn’t what the nation wants. But what about the political fallout?

There are always calls for a Prime Minister to resign after a significant defeat, but how likely is the referendum vote to affect the PM’s standing? And is Gough Whitlam really to blame? There’s plenty of time between now and the next election, but also a clear indication that some Labor supporters didn’t want a part of this.

There’s also the misinformation question: Meta’s independent fact-checkers found some astounding nonsense floating around the interwebs, so how do we have a big national discussion about a big national issue when some voters will have completely inaccurate information in front of them?

In the meantime, how do you feel about Commonwealth Park? The home of Floriade is looking tired, and it’s possible Floriade could do with an overhaul as well. Genevieve radically suggests that it could have more to do with actual gardening.

Great cities have great parks, but ours is probably not one of them.

But if we’re talking growth, have a look at the size of the cars we’re driving. People are bigger, and so are the utes that proliferate in our urban streets – does anyone really need a ‘truck’ (or are other issues at play?)
