A 42-year-old Charnwood man is expected to face court today following a pursuit in Canberra’s north overnight.
Around 3am today, a Belconnen patrol identified a stolen white Toyota Dyna truck on Gundaroo Drive in Crace. They followed the truck and observed it mounting the curb of the roundabout at the intersection of Barton Highway and Gundaroo Drive in Crace.
Police activated warning lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop on the truck, but the driver ignored them and accelerated away. A pursuit commenced through Giralang, with police deploying stop sticks on Kuringa Drive, causing the truck’s right-side tyres to deflate.
The truck travelled slowly through Fraser, before stopping outside a house on Rochford Street.
The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes, and reached a maximum speed of 90km/h.
The driver returned a positive roadside screening test, and was taken to City Police Station, where he returned an Alcohol Content (AC) reading of 0.163. As a disqualified driver, he was subject to a zero alcohol limit.
He was taken to the ACT Watch House, where is expected to be charged with drink-driving, disqualified driving, failing to stop for police, driving a stolen motor vehicle, disqualified driver not surrendering his licence and breach of bail.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, where bail will be opposed by police.
