The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will tomorrow, Saturday 15 September, 2012, weather permitting, conduct hazard reduction burns at Bonython and Gordon.

The Bonython Hill burn near Derrington Crescent, Bonython, will commence from 8am to 9pm.

Four heavy tankers, two medium tankers, two light units, five command vehicles and 35 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx eight hectares in size.

The Amber Ridge burn, near Violet Grover Place, Gordon, will commence from 8am to 9pm.

Two heavy tankers, two medium tankers, three command vehicles and 14 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx six hectares in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for both burns is J15.

The purpose of both burns is to remove a fuel hazard.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
