The National Portrait Gallery is home to the most extensive collection of portraits in the world. The gallery’s vision is to reflect the face of Australia, tell Australian stories and increase the understanding and appreciation of Australian people through the art of portraiture – their identity, history, culture, creativity and diversity. An elegant building flooded with natural light, the Gallery is like no other in the capital, with guests coming face-to-face with famous, infamous and sometimes forgotten icons of Australian history.
The Gallery is open every day (except Christmas) from 10 am to 5 pm. Entry to the Gallery is free, but parking and some exhibitions are paid.
