Why should I volunteer?

Volunteering has major benefits, and really has a positive impact on the lives of others. It makes our community a better place to live. For volunteers, it can be a great way to meet new people, feel connected and have lots of fun while making a difference.Whether you are interested in being involved from home or online, to lending a helping hand in our community, or even assisting in outback Australia or overseas, this is the event to find out how easy it is to become involved.

Thank you…

Volunteering ACT, the peak body for volunteer-based organisations in the Australian Capital Territory, is proud to be organising this event, and deeply appreciates the generous contribution made by Hotel Realm, Health GISciences, Southern Cross Ten, the Canberra Labor Club and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.

I think we might already have one – http://www.volunteeract.com.au.

In the Olden Days, I think it was the Red Cross who ran a co-ordination office for all volunteer jobs? and then they lost their funding for it and it shut down. this was a wonderful resource, we used to refer a lot of peopel to it, to fill their day while lookign for work, to get experience and references, a multitude of good things. plus just getting up and getting out and doing somethign every day.

A centralised volunteer co-ordination service is sorely needed.

Hey, don’t apologise, AussieGal — it’s getting even more attention after it’s finished!

Whoops! Sorry everyone.

Admins, can you delete.

Even the linked-to website says it was last weekend, so AussieGal hasn’t made any typos.

She’s just reported olds instead of news.

This is an incredibly handy and extensive run-down of Volunteers’ Day (much more detailed than the quick spiel I posted in the DIY Guide for last weekend).

However, there is indeed a tense problem with some of the content above. It should read: ‘What you needED to know’; ‘What organisations WERE there?’, ‘What else happenED?’

That aside, all the happy words about volunteering and the organisations involved is still all good stuff.

‘Twas a good event. A wee bit at close quarters, but a good coverage of volunteer organisations represented in the region.

pretty sure I saw an article on this in the CT – 3 DAYS AGO!

Is the pay good?

Um, was it really 3 days ago?! Or is it next sunday?
