Luck is in the air in the ACT after a Canberra woman was declared the only winner in Australia of last night’s Oz Lotto jackpot, pocketing a staggering $10,487,834.11.
The recently retired woman, who wished to remain anonymous, is the second person in less than a week to become an instant millionaire after a Canberra man won $1,172,770.07 in last Saturday’s Lotto draw (5 June).
A spokesperson for The Lott, Lauren Cooney, said the sleepy but excited woman wasn’t quite sure if she had dreamt the multi-million-dollar win after seeing her numbers fall in Oz Lotto draw 1425, drawn on Tuesday (8 June).
“I’ve just spoken with the lucky winner who said she had been lying awake all night thinking about the win,” Ms Cooney said.
The woman purchased her life-changing six-game QuickPick online and told The Lott she hopes to travel to Canada.
“I checked my ticket last night, and I couldn’t believe it. I really couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“I didn’t sleep at all. I was lying awake thinking about what we will do if it’s true. I’ve got to sit down and really take it in now. It’s going to take a while to sink in.”
The woman also revealed she and her husband had only recently retired and they’d use their prize to upgrade their home and set their children up for life.
“My husband and I both recently retired, so the timing is perfect,” she said.
“We want to buy a new home.
“And we really want to help our children – that’s the main thing at the moment. It’s really, really satisfying to be able to do that.
“And hopefully, we can go overseas and travel to Canada one day soon.”
With an incredible $10 million about to hit her bank account, the Canberra mum said she had been a long-time Lotto player who never dreamed of winning this much money.
The winning numbers in the Oz Lotto draw were 8, 9, 33, 7, 16, 14 and 45, and the supplementary numbers were 24 and 15.
