A 21-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court after allegedly reaching speeds of 177 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Kingsford Smith Drive in Higgins.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm on Saturday night (27 June).

According to police, the Dunlop man, driving a Volkswagen with three passengers in the vehicle, then turned left on Ginninderra Drive, travelling at high speed, before running a red arrow at the intersection of Ginninderra Drive and Tillyard Drive at Flynn.

Police eventually pulled the vehicle over on Lhotsky Street in Charnwood. He was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice and cannot drive for 90 days.

Police conducted a roadside drug and alcohol test and the man returned a positive result.

The man will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court 31 July on four charges, including drink and drug driving, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h and turning on a red arrow.
