The Brumbies have announced the long speculated on signing of back rower Etienne Oosthuizen from the wreckage of the Lions.

A South African national who represented his country of birth at schoolboys’ level, Oosthuizen has been recruited as the University of Canberra Brumbies Foreign Development Player after Henry Speight’s status changed to Australian in August.

With his eyes now fixed on joining the University of Canberra Brumbies and potentially representing the Wallabies, Oosthuizen said he was excited by the prospect of spending at least the next two years living in Canberra.

We are, however, puzzled by what the Brumbies media team mean when they say:

Born in 1992, Oosthuizen is the youngest member of the University of Canberra Brumbies squad but has managed to do more growing in that time than any of his new teammates.

Hopefully just in relation to his 120kg.

(Oh, and it’s pronounced “Oost-hi-zen”)
