PG | 122 Mins | 1960 | DCP | US | D: John Sturges

Seven gunslinging cowboys are enlisted to defend a Mexican village from a marauding gang in John Sturges’ 1960 American remake of Japanese classic Seven Samurai, which translates Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece into one of the most popular and enduring Hollywood genres, the Western.

Starring Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Charles Bronson and Steve McQueen, The Magnificent Seven avails itself of all the best Western tropes: shoot-outs, quippy one-liners, a romantic subplot, an Oscar-nominated score and plenty of billowing clouds of dust trailing galloping horses. This 1960 hit was followed by three sequels, a 1990s television series and a 2016 remake.
