Fire in Gordon

By GrimReaper711 - 5 December 2009 17

Gordon Fire

Spotted smoke while driving around Gordon lake about 7pm on Friday, and managed to take a photo of a fire as I drove past.

There was a lot of police cars in the area which makes me think it was probably arson. Fire seemed to be put out pretty quick.

Anyone know what happened? I’m guessing it was some bored youths…

What’s Your opinion?

$247 fine for talking on a mobile while driving. My wife found that out last week. Wonder how much for taking a pic, while driving?

The fine is actually *using* a mobile phone while driving, not just talking on it, so the fine would be the same.

Uh… I know that this is a really stupid question;… but where’s Lake Gordon? I’m guesing that it’s in Gordon, but Gordon would’nt have a lake that big would it?

Doesn’t seem as though we can post the embedded google map, but clicking that link will show you where it is.

Not really a lake – it’s actually called Point Hut Pond.

In Victoria, it is illegal now to hold a mobile phone or have it on your lap (on or off) while driving. Don’t matter if you are not making a call or what.

GrimReaper711, I think it’s a great photo. Well done.

Interesting what the fine would be if using an SLR rather than a mobile?

Dude, what happened to the door of your car?

It’s an old car, the doors have suffered a bit of sun damage

maybe safer to stop the car before taking a photo?

True, but I was only doing 20 or so and it was only a quick shot. I made sure I wasn’t going to cause any danger to anyone.

is that the adventure playground?

It was on an island near Callaway Crescent. The ESA have a photo here http://www.esa.act.gov.au/ESAWebsite/images/04122009_uriarra_pond_fire.jpg, but I much prefer your photo GRIMREAPER711. When I went to check out the smoke at around 19:30 all I could see was a fair amount of smoke & 2 empty Police cars parked near the bush on Jim Pike Avenue. Actually the smoke was quite thick on Knoke Avenue.

Well that explains all the smoke at my place last night… It’s interesting the ESA website had nothing posted about it until much later (and the smoke had cleared), unless there is a better website to go to for information when loads of smoke agains appears in the air…

Disappointed you didn’t go with a Flash Gordon headline!
