Fool or perve? It’s academic.

By weeziepops - 17 December 2009 16

The Canberra Times reports yet another example of a local academic being done for “grooming” a child for sex.

The man in question is a pal of the girl’s father and apparently has already lost his own wife and son through his actions.  Kudos to the father for reporting this to the police rather than taking the very tempting option of meting out justice in his own way.

Perhaps our local universities need to give their staff more to do.

What’s Your opinion?

See I don’t really support naming sex offenders before they’ve been declared guilty. The stigma associated with the crime is so much that someone who is found innocent has had their life ruined sometimes just on the basis of “she said” that is later recanted.

Once they’ve been found guilty, print their name, address, photo… go to town.

3 years waiting in remand is itself criminal. Is not the punishment assuming a finding?

[Morrd:] Castration ought wait until after the judgement, just so we castrate the guilty, right? Then, ought we incarcerate all accused indefinitely awaiting Refshauge’s interminable considerations? It’s the practice and it’s criminal.

The judgement? What judgment? When is that? It is most important that something is proven.

LoL, nothing like a good bump five months after the last post to bring this back to everyones attention whilst claiming its your Dad, I don’t get it…

I know a fair bit about this case and there is no way that ‘bump’ was from a child of the alleged defender.

Interesting that he is pleading not guilty on this case: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/crime-and-law/not-guilty-plea-to-act-of-indecency/2200687.aspx
given that he plead guilty to this one: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/02/19/2824899.htm

I hear that hairdressers groom children.

Has this gone to trial yet?

About time we institute chemical castration for sex crimes against children.

What the hell does his occupation have to do with this revolting crime? Or are we surprised that the middle-classes have abusive men in their ranks? If you are surprised, you need to get out more.

The part? That was IT, Woody Boy.

Hmmm – academics are now (allegedly) pedophiles. When I was at CCAE in the mid 1980s they were merely lunar Right wackos.

I liked the part where you implied all academics are easily-distracted pedophiles.

What a weird post – I would have thought that this would be the last town to harbour anti-university prejudices. There are bad eggs in every profession and level of education.

Since when is not breaking the law by beating someone up a cause for congratulations?

He might have been better employed wearing a bowtie and crying in Copenhagen about the sea drowning Tuvalu. Good earner – but limited employment next week.

But maybe he’s not prepared to live in Queanbeyan.
