The Department of Territory and Municipal Services have announced they’re going to be giving away free micro-chipping for any cats that have missed out on the process to date:
Canberrans have an opportunity to get their cat microchipped for free at Domestic Animal
Services between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm on Wednesday 22 December 2010.“It is a requirement in the ACT for any cat over the age of 12 weeks old which is sold to be microchipped,” Registrar, Domestic Animal Services, Peter Dinan said.
“Microchipping allows cats that have been found to be quickly identified and returned to their owner.
“While Domestic Animal Services traditionally deals mainly with dogs, we are now going to start offering a microchipping service for cats. This will be done for the discounted rate of $40 which compares very favourably to anywhere else in Canberra.
“To draw attention to this new service, we are encouraging people to come along to a special promotion between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm on Wednesday 22 December 2010 where we will microchip cats for free.
If you want to take advantage of the special offer you need to email communityengagement@act.gov.au by 12pm, Monday 20 December.
The shelter is on Mugga Lane in Symonston.
