Googong Dam Development open to comment

Queanbeyan Mayor Frank Pangallo says although the South Tralee project is being heavily scrutinised he does not expect major opposition to the Googong plan.

“The Government (has) made submissions through the various stages about the Googong Dam being so close to this development and whether there’d be any run-off into it,” he said.

The same Queanbeyan Mayor, Frank Pangallo, who was not worried that Canberrans were possibly swimming in 1.5Megalitres of human waste and then blamed Telstra, is not particularly concerned about the possible extent of human runoff into the local drinking water supply.

There is no confirmation of a water supply to the area, but the man is so wonderfully naive as to publicly announce he expects ‘logical reasoning’ from ACTEWAGL.

Small question, why is Googong Dam being listed on the ABC News website as “near the Canberra Airport”?

The only copy of the proposed plan I can find is here.
The same site also hosts the Googong consultation FAQ.

For detailed plans go to http://www.qcc.nsw.gov.au/page.aspx?page=6868
In particular, note the Section 65 Certificate, which states that
“While the planning issues associated with the draft plan are sufficiently resolved to allow the plan to go on exhibition, Council is reminded that a number of critical issues will need to be resolved before the Department could recommend to the Minister that the final plan be made. These issues cover:
Resolution of Cross Border arrangements with the ACT Government concerning settlement and water supply issues
Resolution of an adequate supply of potable water for the development area, including demonstration that the development targets reductions in water use as required by the Minister’s endorsement of Council’s Strategy
Finalisation of a State Developer Agreement with the proponent, including (if necessary) arrangements for cross border infrastructure contributions
Finalisation of transport studies, including the identification and securing of a route for the proposed Dunns Creek Arterial and other necessary road upgrades”.
Googong dam and development are under the unofficial flight path to Canberra Airport: every day googng locals look up and see non-existent planes flying overhead.
