The seat swapping Liberals (despite the letterhead from the expired Assembly Zed is running in Brindabella and Steve in Molonglo) are letting us know their grand plans for the ovals of inner Tuggeranong:

ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja and ACT Shadow Sports Minister Steve Doszpot announced today that if elected, a Canberra Liberals Government will commit $500,000 to upgrade Greenway oval, and provide 300 new car parks within the oval grounds. Mr Seselja said Greenway oval is a hidden sporting gem in the ACT.

“Greenway oval was initially built to Olympic training standard for the 2000 Sydney Games, but after 11 years of neglect by ACT Labor, it hasn’t been maintained to the level that it should be,” Mr Seselja said.

“Clubs which use the oval have raised concerns about inadequate changing rooms, toilet blocks and storage spaces, makeshift canteen facilities, and limited opportunities for fundraising.

“The Canberra Liberals have listened, and if elected we’ll commit $500,000 to get Greenway oval back to its original standard, and provide an extra 300 car parks to benefit all Tuggeranong residents.

True… no secret of that… but MLAs they are, and, that role will be carried out until the actual election.

The problem is not the facilities at Greenway, the problem is that their is only one (public) enclosed oval in the entire Tuggeranong valley, and that is not sufficient for all the sports clubs in that region. We don’t need more money on Greenway, we need another ground. Tuggeranong United is the biggest sports club in the valley and they are playing on Kambah 2, and you think Greenway is lacking facilities.
There is nothing wrong with Greenway except that it’s an AFL ground that everyone else just has to deal with. The canteen is purpose built, not makeshift, the changerooms are the biggest around, as are the toilets. And it’s only one ground, you can only play one match at a time on one ground.
