Forget dragway noise in the Inner North, Federal Minister for Territories Jim Lloyd wants to share the love with everyone by allowing powerboats on Lake Burley Griffin.

He’s confirmed the waterskiing “trial” was a success and will continue.

The environmental impact statement is here.

The lake is already very usable and very much in use. Lets start with rowers, sailing boats, triathletes, paddle boaters, small (and quiet) steam boat etc. not to mention birdlife etc. Even in winter months there are always people enjoying the facilities the lake has to offer. Just because they aren’t noisy doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

The last thing we need is powered vehicles on the lake. And I’m not some cardigan wearer, I love jet skis and water skiing. I just don’t think the main basins of the lake are appropriate.

Fantastic! We need to make the lake more usable!

Is this just the Liberal government giving the symbolic middle finger to a Labour town?

What about jet boats ?

oh yeah…

They will continue to do to us what they will.

And since Lloyd’s not accountable to Canberrans there’s bugger all anyone can do.

Gary Humphries, on the other hand …

I just love how if the Minister for Territories is a fan of your sport, you can shove it right down the throats of Canberrans.

I’m reasonably agnostic about water-skiing on the lake. It’s noisy and boring to watch and he’s not proposing that the plebs be allowed to waterski so it’s not like i can join in the fun bit.

But I look forward to the next hobby horse of the next territories minister being inflicted on us.
