Kambah man charged following fatal accident in Queanbeyan

A 57-year-old Kambah man will face court charged with negligent driving (occasioning death) following a fatal accident in Queanbeyan last year.

The accident occurred when a Toyota Yaris sedan and motorcycle collided at McCrae Street near Lanyon Drive at about 3.20 pm on 23 December 2019.

The motorcycle rider, a 74-year-old man, was taken to Queanbeyan Hospital with face, chest and leg injuries. He died in hospital on 1 January.

The 57-year-old Yaris driver was not injured. He was taken to Queanbeyan Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Following the accident, police officers from the crash investigation unit commenced an investigation into the accident.

The Kambah man fronted Queanbeyan Police Station on 31 May, when he was issued a court attendance notice to face the negligent driving (occasioning death) charge.

The man is due to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on 24 August.
