The Tuggeranong Push rolls on with the Liberals promising more facilities in parts South.

ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja and ACT Deputy Opposition Leader Brendan Smyth announced today that if elected, a Canberra Liberals Government will commit $15 million for the development of an indoor swimming pool in Lanyon.

“The Canberra Liberals believe that all Canberra residents should have access to recreational and community facilities within a reasonable distance from their homes,” Mr Seselja said.

UPDATE 20/09/12 14:39: Team Gallagher has expressed its displeasure saying the pool is not needed and can’t be built at this price.

Recent studies have shown that public pools only contain about 37% water. The rest is a melange of urine, animal feces, saliva, sodium hydroxide, blood, animal blood, chlorine, semen and “etc”.

That’s why I have a shower after swimming.

As a Tuggeranong resident, I’d have thought the people of Woden and especially Weston Creek would in many cases have further to go to an indoor swimming pool than those in Lanyon.

I’d really like it if Phillip Pool was redeveloped as an indoor pool similar to Tuggers Pool. I live in Chifley and it is extremely frustrating having to go to Tuggeranong each day because Phillip Pool (just up the road) is unable to be used.

I’m sick of having to dodge kangaroos each morning on Athllon Drive before the Sulwood Dr roundabout and near Lake Tuggeranong.

The mother of all First World problems.

Agreed, a pool in Weston Creek/Woden is needed before another pool is built in Tuggeranong. I also don’t understand how the Gungahlin area will receive an indoor pool before the Weston Creek/Woden area.

Nice but we dont need it, there is a perfectly good one in Tuggeranong.

Madame said “Never been to Phillip and wouldn’t due to the seeming lack of shade” – sadly, they cut down the shade trees to put in the ice skating centre many moons ago.
Lanyon could certainly do with a pool but if it’s run like Phillip it would be a complete waste as most people would still flock to Tuggers (Leisure Ctr).
IMO the Lanyon valley area of Tuggers (Banks, Conder, Gordon) is more poorly served in many ways than Gunners (this is just one example).

Knowing the Libs it will be another privatised disaster like the disgraceful Phillip Pool which charges almost $10.00 a visit with no concessions and no free entry for the disabled.

It is true that Tuggers needs another 50m pool but it should be run the same way as Lakeside Leisure Centre and Civic Olympic, namely owned by the ACT government – which sets the entry conditions including free entry for the disabled – and leased to private enterprise.

It is an outrageous rort and a total waste to drive past Phillip Pool in summer and not see one person using the pool.

Never been to Phillip and wouldn’t due to the seeming lack of shade, however have been to Tuggers and find it to be on the whole pretty yucky. Just seems to be badly maintained in terms of cleanliness. We usually go to Erindale which seems to have a better standard.
