Police call for information after armed intruders target wrong Mawson home

ACT Policing is calling for information regarding a home invasion in Mawson where a wallet and car were allegedly stolen.

Police say that at about 1:45 am on Thursday (18 July), four people wearing dark clothing, gloves and balaclavas forced their way into a residence on Du Faur Place in Mawson.

After gaining entry to the property, the group claimed to be police executing a search warrant.

Once inside the home, the group produced several weapons including a rifle, baton, and a tyre iron. They then allegedly threatened and assaulted a man before demanding money and drugs.

A short time later, the group left the location, stealing the man’s wallet and vehicle.

The vehicle, a Toyota Hilux ute, was subsequently located in Lyons at about 2:30 am. It was seized before being transported to the police Exhibit Management Centre for examination.

ACT Policing believe the home was targeted in error, with neither the residence nor the man known to police.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident, and are calling for information from the public to assist in their investigation.
