A police officer has been taken to hospital after apprehending two men in an aggravated robbery at Gungahlin Marketplace this morning.

About 4.45 am on Monday 5 March, Gungahlin patrol members responded to a report of an aggravated robbery in progress at the Gungahlin Marketplace.

Upon police arriving, two men attempted to flee the scene before being apprehended by police. One of the men assaulted a police officer, causing him to be transported to hospital for treatment.

The 33-year-old Monash man who assaulted the police officer is likely to face court in the near future, charged with assault and property offences.

A crime scene has been established at the Gungahlin Marketplace as investigations continue. It is likely the Gungahlin Marketplace and surrounding area will experience some disruption to pedestrian and vehicular traffic this morning.

ACT Policing would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while the crime scene is being processed.

Detective Acting Superintendent, Adrian Craft said anyone who assaults police officers who protect our community will be charged and will face the ACT Magistrates Court.
