Police are urging motorists in the Jindabyne area to delay travel if possible due to dangerous conditions on local roads.

They say snow and ice have made travel conditions particularly treacherous, with police and other emergency services responding to a number of traffic incidents.

Police ask all motorists to consider delaying their travel until conditions improve.

As the above photo taken by Belinda Wight in Thredbo Village today demonstrates, some drivers may not have much choice about whether they can leave the mountains to return to Canberra today – or will need to do some serious snow digging first.

Those still planning to use roads in the Snowy Mountains region should exercise extreme caution and be patient due to expected delays. Chains should be fitted to vehicles at Berridale prior to entering the Jindabyne area.
