Meet our lovable pets of the week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!
Athena and Oreo are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These lovely animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below!
Dog of the Week: Athena
It’s time for sweet Athena to go home. She’s a delightful Bull Arab with a gorgeous face (as you can see), and she’s a real companion dog. She’s been with us for around four months, and we’re really, truly hopeful that she will find her forever home this weekend.
You see, we’re hosting a ‘Clear The Shelter’ campaign and dogs and cats over six months old will cost just $50.
Of course, before making an adoption, you should consider ongoing animal costs like food, toys, and enrichment, the time you need to spend, and potential medical and vet expenses.
Athena loves her toys and responds wonderfully to food and commands. She’ll sit for you but also wants to play with toys. Hilariously, she loves to fetch but she has no idea that for the game to continue, she needs to actually give the toy back to you.
She’ll get there, though. Please come and visit Athena. Spend time with her in one of our yards, and you’ll see and feel the wonderful amount of affection she can give you at home.
Dog of the week: Oreo
Oreo, the Staffy Bull Terrier, is another dog we have high hopes for this weekend because he’s such a friendly, sweet-smiling boy who, again, has been here for too long.
In recent weeks, our adoptions have slowed to a snail’s pace (although last weekend was terrific), and we expect the costs of living may be a factor in people’s reluctance to adopt a new family member.
However, we know in our hearts that Oreo’s value and what he brings to a family home is immeasurable and something well worth paying $50 for. He’s a great companion, and away from the sights, noises and smells of shelter life, we think he’ll flourish.
Come and meet Oreo; he’s a real sweetheart.
Pawnotes: As mentioned earlier, after a slow month for adoptions, last week was great! Long-term dogs Max and Marley (German Shepherds) and Lola (Boxer cross), who’d all been here most of the year, found their forever homes. We cried. A lot. Thank you, Canberra, and thanks to Jess Brown from JBR Pets for the fab photos. She’s a pro and volunteered her time for a photoshoot to help the dogs.
Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!
