Smoker anger boils over in the Holy Grail

By johnboy - 10 May 2007 14

Andrew Landeryou tipped us off to an SMH story on biffo in the Holy Grail on budget night when the former Minister Peter Slipper allegedly refused to stub out his cigarette inside and an enraged punter took justice into his own hands.

The man, whose behaviour at times appeared to be erratic, said he asked Mr Slipper to extinguish a cigarette inside the bar and the MP refused, so he had decided to act.

Mr Slipper maintained that he had fully intended to stub out the cigarette. It is unlawful in Canberra to smoke anywhere in licensed premises.

The Herald Sun is also on the story.

What’s Your opinion?

Peter Slipper is a hero for liberty.

Now if the owners of the Holy Grail had have asked him, that would have been a different story.

“holy grail place seems to draw pollies like flies”
Or in Peter Slipper’s case: “draws fly-like pollies”!
Or maybe “Peter Slipper draws files like the Holy Grail”.

Yep, that’d be it. I remembered it because it hit the news a few months after I’d visited there with a bunch of mates – just the once. A remarkably strange place for Pauline and DAvid to meet up – perhaps they were having an 80’s night. Or a “Dress like your parents” night.

El Rancho, or what is now called Minque next door to the cinemas?

Ant, it wasn’t the holy grail, it was the old El Rancho bar in Manuka (which has now renamed itself something else). Know your shonky Canberra history…

Pandy, they don’t engage with the peasants until they’re blotto…so good luck!!!

A good reason for keeping away. I assume politicians are contagious.

So if i go to the grail I’ll score big time with Jakie Kelly?

That holy grail place seems to draw pollies like flies. It’s where David Oldfield and Pauline Hanson met!

Bouncers – never off duty.

LMAO!
Only wish I’d been there to see the oh-so-slimy Slipper hit the pavement.
Locked horns with him politically a few times back home. And he regularly features in stories in the Sunshine Coast Daily about inappropriate use of funds and amazingly high turn over of his staff.
Not one of Parliament’s leading lights that one, by any stretch.
