A 30-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday, March 25) following a pursuit with police yesterday afternoon through Belconnen.
About 6.50pm last night Belconnen Police Station members observed a white Ford Laser that had been reported stolen earlier in the day on Ginninderra Drive near Flynn.
Police activated lights and sirens to indicate the driver to pull over. The driver has not complied and accelerated away. A pursuit ensued along Kingsford Smith Drive and onto William Hovell Drive, with speeds reaching up to 130km/h in the 90km/h zone. Police attempted to deploy stop sticks however, these were unsuccessful.
The driver of the Laser was apprehended after failing to negotiate a corner, coming to rest on the nature strip at the corner of William Hovell Drive and Bindubi Street, near Aranda.
The man was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House. He has been charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, unlicensed driving, dangerous driving and not stopping when directed to by police.
