The weather apps are forecasting a slight rise in temperatures this weekend (but given it’s Canberra in July, we know that it’s still pretty darn cold!) Make sure you grab a coat when you step outside to cheer on the Milk at GIO Stadium or browse Hartley Hall Markets.
But if you’re still keen on something indoors, check out a high tea, theatre production, a five-course meal with the best of French cuisine, and panel discussions to make life easier.

High Tea at Tuggeranong

Bring your friends and family together for a taste of luxury! This high tea includes smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, carrot cake, cucumber sandwiches, baked cheesecakes, other assorted petite pastries and more delicious treats. There will also be a selection of teas – make your choice from English Breakfast, Earl Grey, or Darjeeling – or Tatachilla sparkling wine to wash it all down. The menu caters for two to four people, and there is a gluten-free option available for an additional $5 per person.
Warm Trees

The Friends of the National Arboretum Canberra have been hard at work making sure the trees aren’t caught up in the winter cold – they’ve wrapped trees in bright scarves as well as decorations at the Village Centre. Head along and check out the annual installation in July, which draws inspiration from Chile this year. The Friends have also organised free viewings of The National Arboretum Canberra – A twenty-year story on 7 July, 21 July and 28 July, from 10 am to 2 pm. The 30-minute documentary traces the development of the National Arboretum from the initial plans to its current form.

The Woman in Black

After three decades in London’s West End, The Woman in Black is coming to Australia. The play is based on the 1983 book of the same name by English author Susan Hill. It’s the story of a mysterious ghost that haunts a small English town. This production features John Waters and Daniel MacPherson in a study of atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.
Bastille Day celebrations at Les Bistronomes
When: 9 July to 13 July, 6 pm or 8:30 pm sittings
Where: Les Bistronomes, 18 Blamey Place, Campbell
Cost: Tickets cost $105 per person and bookings can be made via the restaurant’s website.
Les Bistronomes will be the place to be this week to mark Bastille Day, the national day of France. There will be a five-course meal with the best of French classics. It’s a big week for chef Clement Chauvin, as well – it’s his birthday, and if you wish him a happy birthday at the beginning of the meal, you will receive a complimentary glass of sparkling wine!
Winter school holiday workshops with National Museum of Australia

Bring out the puffer jacket and pick up something nice for yourself (it’s winter in Canberra, you’ve earned it). Hartley Lifecare organises the Hartley Hall Market, which is one of Australia’s largest homemade and home-grown goods markets. Every month, the market boasts a range of stallholders who are sure to have something for everyone. The proceeds support Hartley Lifecare’s disability programs and services.
Canberra Raiders v Newcastle Knights
