You’d think they’d go back for the lock

derelict bike

As seen in Garema Place yesterday.

When abandoning a bike is the lock left to avoid having to dispose of the carcass?

Someone’s already accepted that challenge:

If someone did that to one of my bikes I’d be too upset to collect the lock and dispose of the frame straight away. I love them like penguins (I adore penguins).

i thought it was a case of someone locking up their bike and some other arsehole coming along a stripping it of parts.

+1.

My girlfriend locked her bike up at the ANU way back in 1982 to go to lectures. She came back a few hours later and it looked just like this. It was her only means of transport at the time, and it broke her heart that someone could be so cruel to her. She cried on and off for a couple of weeks. I wonder if the same family of piss weak smalltime criminals is passing down the family tradition from one generation to the next?

There are people out there who need shooting.

I have seen this broken bike here in Civic for awhile. There’s one like it near the Woden Bus Interchange. I hate it, whoever caused this is disrespectful and a vandal.

It’s an ironic, post modern art installation.

Youse are just Philistines.

That’s the new single seating they’re rolling out (..dragging) around Civic. Some even have cup holders…

Yeh, bike is definitely not rideable. I noticed it yesterday.

Generally you would only take the front wheel if you wanted to prevent it being stolen. Easier to get on and off, and good luck riding a road bike with a single wheel…

Would anybody be cranky if I turned up with a car jack, opened the lock, and removed the rubbish?

Or maybe the person who owns the bike removed the quick release wheels, took them into work, and left the bike locked outside.

yes, that’s what I assumed too.

It looks like they tried to peel the cover off the seat too, before realising it just tears.

Maybe it wasn’t intentionally abandoned, before someone stole the quick release wheels?

The lock looks like it might be worth more than the bike.

I feel bad for the bike.
