No short shorts for Lyneham

I would have to agree with Nyssa. Knowing the staff at Lyneham, it would be hard to imagine that this would be a kneejerk reaction and it would have been a descison based on protecting staff rather than a puritanical sense of outrage. I also reckon that if a person was put on detention it was more likely that it was for disent about the new rule rather than the rule itself. The parents at that school would be calling the minister if a child had been put on a detention without warning. Still, I have no evidence about that or indeed if a student was actually put on detention at all.
Just wonder if the teachers are going to be held to the same rule. My recollections are of a few of the teachers wearing similar clothing. Quite tricky enforcing a rule like that if the teachers don’t follow it as well. Should be interesting to see what happens!

I have always wondered if clothing has any impact intelligence or performance. Very little I suspect.

Perhaps they can award the high acheivers with more clothing choice and the under achievers with stricter clothing options. Therefore the nerds become the cool kids.

I’m torn. As a lad, I loved short shorts (and in Townsville, there was no shortage). These days as a grumbling early 30-something, I just wish my 13-yo niece would put some damned clothes on before I have to go Uncle Buck on her moron boy(-)friends. Then again, she’s a smart girl, and I should trust her. Then again again, book-learnin’ is a whole different thing from common sense, and god knows what she’s capable of after a couple of Cruisers.

(And wasn’t this the perfect chance to have “Who wears short shorts” as the headline?)

I think that the short shorts they are talking about are completly not acceptable for school.
It is a bit stupid to be punishing people on the day the rule came in though.

I really like hot pants. I’m glad they’re making a comeback.

If people are worried about schools, they should check out the public service at some stage. I’m currently consulting with a large agency in Civic and some of the stuff the young grads wear is amazing. I’d sack them on the spot for unprofessionalism if I were their boss. But I’m not, so I just allow myself to enjoy the view.

I don’t think I can judge the merits of this proposal until we see some photos.

Maybe they just dont’ want their students looking like skanks.

They also come to school in short skirts, making the whole world their gynaecologist. If you see that on a daily basis then you’ll know why teachers etc asked for the ban.

Students have been known to visably show g-strings around male staff etc.

It’s to protect both the staff and the students.

On of the Deputy Principals was my Yr10 Science teacher – who never put up with that crap when she taught me and never will.

Then again, it all comes down to dressing appropriately and hot pants aren’t it.

hahaa they were trying this when I was in high school (about 10 years ago, mind ytou it was the skirts that were short not the shorts!
Public schools can try all they like and much as I think a standard uniform looks great, it’ll never be followed by everyone!

Also in grown up land the enforcers of rules are specifically ruled out of getting offended.

But the teachers seem to be the biggest juveniles in this town.

Having said that I have no problem with a dress code widely distributed in advance and comprehensively enforced.

I personally don’t have a problem with boy shirts on teenage girls; as long as the girls look hot in them.
