Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Buddy and Luna are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These gorgeous animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below.

Bird of the Week – Buddy

Looking for a new pal in life? Meet Buddy! A very handsome and distinguished young cockatoo. Buddy can be quite anxious in the shelter, but once he’s in a comfortable home, rest assured he’s more than happy to show you his personality.

He is like a typical cockatoo, fun-loving, attention-seeking, a bit loud and pretty cheeky!

Previously he lived indoors, so ideally, he will go to a home that can accommodate him inside and is comfortable with him flying free.

Once he gets to know you, he will happily accept scratches, have a good chat and enjoys wheeling around the place on your shoulder. He has a strange tendency to breathe in your ear which can be a little odd, but he’s just reminding you he’s there!

His new owners will need to be dedicated to owning a cockatoo as a pet. In captivity, they can have amazing life spans and have been known to live up to 100 years. Some planning will need to go into ensuring Buddy’s future as well.

Please see our article on the RSPCA Knowledge base website about the correct dimensions for a cockatoo cage. It needs to be large enough so Buddy can have toys and enrichment games in there with him.

Buddy is sure to make a perfect pal for life!

Luna

Will Luna be your lucky girl?

Dog of the Week – Luna

She’s known at the shelter for her iconic big listening ears, but we hope readers are listening because we’ve got to tell you about Luna!

Luna is a sweet dog who is excited to find her new home. She can be a little shy around new people and can take some warming up, but once she gets to know you, she’ll show you her playful spirit. Luna is a very happy girl who tends to save her affection for people she’s familiar with and trusts.

Luna is active and healthy and enjoys her daily walks. She’d make an excellent exercise companion for someone who likes clocking up the steps on their pedometer. Her absolute favourite thing, though, is the tennis ball. A long game of fetch in the park would be her perfect afternoon.

Luna is very fair and will need a backyard with good shady protection from the sun to keep her skin safe. She’d love some indoor time also where she can snuggle up on the couch with her family.

Luna hasn’t had much exposure to young children and can be a bit boisterous at times, so we’d recommend a home with older teens who are comfortable around dogs.

Visit the RSPCA at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it!
