Three-headed poetry book launch

So I went along to this gig, and really enjoyed it. Poetix is a very nice lady as one would expect, and I enjoyed meeting her. She and Josh Inman read some of the poems from the book which inspired me to buy it.

Amongst others, she read a poem that was gently mocking of the APS, and (heaven forfend) a poem that was gently mocking of the RiotAct. Josh Inman started off with a memorable reading/performance of a poem called “My Breakfast had a Face”. I won’t elaborate on that, but it’s worth reading aloud and with enthusiasm.

If you have a few quid to spare to support local artists and local publishing then I recommend popping along to Paperchain to pick up a copy.

Mmm, perhaps I should be trying to win the Mully, so I can say, ‘Me, nice? I don’t think so!’ And spit or split infinitives or something.

Glad you enjoyed the launch. I particularly enjoyed Paul Hetherington’s talk, as he made me sound quite intelligent. Which I am certainly not at the moment, and intending to become less so.

I will, but I’ve always thought that the pronunciation of LSWCHP was obvious. 🙂

Well if you turn up with all guns blazing,Poetix will cotton on in no time.

I haven’t turned up at a poetry reading with all guns blazing for virtually…I dunno…several weeks.

And if you’re referring to that unfortunate incident at the Adelaide International Poetry Festival last year, well, the guy said his work was in iambic pentameter, but the first line of the 32nd stanza had 11 syllables so I reckon he had it coming. Besides which, the ambos patched him up before he bled out, and I promised the cops I wouldn’t do it again.

It’s O positive, ambos. Just in case he doesn’t approve of poems written as advertisements. Or prose poems generally. Or that the one rhyming poem I have in this doesn’t rhyme ‘properly’. Or….Just bring the blood.

Well one can only imagine that he was left feeling a little hollow afterwards!
