Calling all dog-lovers and their furry four-legged friends! A Gatsby-themed celebration of all things dogs is coming to Exhibition Park this Saturday.
Running since 2015, A Pooch Affair is designed to be a fun, inclusive community event that draws attendees from Canberra and surrounds.
Event manager Emma Pieper said A Pooch Affair was always a fun day.
“In the past, it’s been quite unique as it’s held indoors, and there’s not many places throughout Canberra where you can do that,” she said.
“We’re actually super excited that it’s back as it’s always so popular.
“People tend to come out, they spend the whole day there and they keep nice and warm as it’s held in the Budawang Pavilion at EPIC.”
The event has attracted more than 10,000 dogs since it started. This year it aims to see 3000 people and 1000 dogs come through the doors.
Emma said 50 exhibitors had registered for the day.
“We tend to get the same people coming back every year as they love being involved,” she said.
“This year 30 per cent of our exhibitors are new and joining us for the first time, so it’s really growing.
“People come with their dogs, their families and their friends and it’s just a really nice community day out.”
The Pooch Affair manager said this year’s event would include its signature “best-dressed” dog competition, where people would be able to take photos with their pups and take them home, live music all day, a puppy play area, a puppy ball pit, live demonstrations and more.
There will also be plenty of prizes and giveaways on the day. Pooch Burgers, Beers and Pawstries Bar will be officially launching, there will be puppuchinos for sale and plenty of delicious treats for your furry friends.
A Pooch Affair is also well known for its Doggie Retail Mall, where visitors can find an array of both local and interstate pet products and services including grooming, pet care, toys, food and treats, giftware, clothing, leads and collars, pet photographers, bedding, accessories and books.
RSPCA ACT, the event’s charity partner, will also be in attendance as well as many other animal rescue and non-profit organisations and community groups, and will be raising funds and running dog games throughout the day.
The event takes place this Saturday, 9 July, at Exhibition Park in the Budawang Pavilion from 10 am to 3 pm.
Tickets are $10 per person (pre-booked), or can be purchased at the door for $15.
