All the crims came home

By johnboy - 4 June 2009 6

The ABC brings word that Canberra’s prisoners have been very rapidly thrown back by the interstate penal systems that were housing them. All the prisoners are now back here.

143 men and 17 lucky women are now staying at the Hume Hilton.

Caf: yeah but this prison is designed to rehabilitate, hence the naming of the goal after one of the fathers of penal reform.

I just hope this cuts the reoffending rate so it will be worth the money. Give it a few years and lets see the stats…..

143 men + 17 women = 160 prisoners, slightly above 50% of the 300 offender capacity.

According to their website, “Approximately 50% of the accommodation is in 5 bedroom cottages. There are no female cells. The self-contained cottages are for lower security prisoners.”

How many of these prisoners are deemed low security risk, how many not, and as a result, how many of the cottages are unused?
