ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after a man was robbed by two men last night in Belconnen.

Around 10pm the victim was walking along the cycle path which runs behind Ranken Place when he was approached by two men of African appearance.

As the men approached the victim, one of them produced a knife and made threats. The victim handed over a sum of cash and was not harmed during the robbery.

The men were last seen running along the cycle path towards the intersection of Luxton Street and Lathlain Street, Belconnen.

The two men can be described as African in appearance, both approximately 5’9” (175cm) in height with slim builds. At the time of the incident both men were wearing black ‘hoodies’ and black pants.

Anyone who may have witnessed the aggravated robbery or has knowledge which may assist police in identifying the two men is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I wonder if this is the same 2 that I have seen at the Belconnen Labour club eyeing off drunk people?

OK. I don’t think I’m a vile racist pig or anything like that. I may well be, but I don’t think so. However, it seems like there’s been quite a few events like this in Belco over the last year or so featuring blokes of “African” origin…more so than I would expect from the number of black folks I see wandering around the mall for example.

Soooo….are there any figures anywhere that show whether folks from Africa (assuming these dudes were from Africa) such as refugees are over represented in the local crime statistics?

More likely there is just two (possibly of African decent) gentlemen doing multiple muggings Belco. The ‘black Massey’.

Does anyone know why ‘hoodie’ is in quote marks? Has it not been accepted by the media release people as being part of the the Queen’s English yet?
