Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I hire a floor specialist?

While it’s possible to install flooring yourself, hiring a specialist ensures that installation is correct and in line with building regulations. Furthermore, having a professional install your flooring comes with a warranty you can fall back on if something goes wrong.

What are the most eco-friendly flooring materials?

Flooring materials sourced from fast-growing trees are environmentally friendly. This includes cork, bamboo and pinewood. Recycled concrete and linoleum are good options. Talk to your flooring specialist about eco-friendly flooring materials that look great and are long lasting.

Is underlay important when installing carpet?

Underlay is important. It helps absorb shock and prevents general wear-and-tear on your carpet. This prolongs its life. Underlay also dramatically improves sound and heat insulation, reducing noise and your energy bills.

What are the benefits of laminate flooring?

Laminate flooring is an attractive choice because it looks like real timber but is highly durable and easier to take care of. Protected by a tough external layer and resin coating, a laminate floor is much stronger and more scratch-resistant and impact-resistant than hardwood, vinyl, or carpet.

What is the most affordable flooring material?

Linoleum and vinyl floors are generally the most affordable options for flooring. Cork is too. It acts as a natural insulator and is environmentally friendly. Ceramic tile, on the other hand, can be expensive to install, but it’s durable and easy to maintain. Talk to your flooring specialist about options.

I would highly recommend Sean from Flawless, absolutely professional, nice man who delivers on-time with the top quality. I spoke with so many people before giving my flooring job to him and his knowledge and expertise became unmatched. They delivered the job with the best quality, I would highly recommend them if you expect a quality work.

Use this company at your own risk. I had some renovations done last year and my builder subcontracted Concord Timber Flooring. There were SO MANY issues. The skirting was incorrect, the installation was very poor quality, to the point where I had them back on multiple occasions to fix the detail. But that was just the start. Then in less than six months the nosing on the stairs split. I tried for approximately 8 months to have them come back to fix this one piece of stair nosing. Yes, you heard me – 8 MONTHS! If I wasn’t chasing, then it was radio silence. I’ve never heard so many excuses in my life!!! Including, wait for it, I didn’t engage him directly. So I guess it’s not only consumers beware, but if you are looking for a subby I’d avoid this guy!!!! What was a minor and completely fixable problem turned into a major drama. Professional? No. Duty of care? No. Quality product and customer service? No. The only place I would recommend this company to is the Small Claims Tribunal!

I made an appointment with Nu Flooring Xtra in Fyshwick for a quote and never showed up. And now not returning my calls. They made me wait for over a week to get a quote and I have a limited amount of time to get this work done before furniture is moved in. I was really, really disappointed with their service. And the RiotACT is always somewhere I go to for advice – but maybe they’ve gotten busier since this article because their customer services is absolutely deplorable.

Carpet Factory had cheaper “wholesale” flooring options than the retailers listed here. You should definitely check them out. I think people do not realise it is a store in Canberra because it is in warehouse down a long driveway next to Watsons blinds. They had higher quality hybrid flooring at almost half the price of other retailers. Carpet tiles and timber flooring was also cheap and was there in stock to actually see on site. We went with their luxury vinyl planks because our floor was flat and clean and it seemed like the best solution for our budget. We saved a lot of money and are very happy with the result. They installed it for us and did a great job. Also got some carpet tiles for the work shop. They were literally half the price of other stores and easy enough to self install. The sales guy there was very helpful also on DIY advice…
