Canberra’s Best House Painters

By Emily Morris - 4 December 2017 33

Is your property in need of a refresh? House painting is one of the most effective – and affordable – ways to transform the look of your home.

Unfortunately, not all painters leave your home looking perfect. Some take nasty shortcuts that limit the lifespan of the paint, while others fail to clean up after themselves.

After reading your comments and considering your feedback, we’ve put together a list of the top four painters in the Canberra region. Have a read, request a couple of quotes, and rest assured your home will be treated with respect.

What Makes a Fantastic Painter?

If you’ve ever given DIY painting a go, you’ll know that it isn’t as easy as it looks. In fact, many DIY-ers end up spending more money, and taking a whole lot longer to repaint their interior or exterior.

The best professional painters ensure the entire process runs smoothly. But, what exactly separates the good from the bad? Here are the traits we believe Canberra’s most fantastic painters have.

  • Skilled. At the end of the day, you want your new paint work to look great. That means smooth surfaces, even colours, and straight lines.
  • Knowledgeable. It isn’t as simple as pick up a paint brush and go. The best painters know when to use specialised primers, different tools, waterproof seals, and more.
  • Clean and tidy. If you are inviting painters into your home, you should expect them to clean up. Painters that leave a mess aren’t worth your money.
  • Prompt. Depending on your paint project, house painting can take up to a few weeks. That being said, the best painters get the job done in the shortest possible time.
  • Fairly priced. The best painters quote a competitive price and stick to it. You don’t want to be overcharged for a subpar service.

Anything in particular you look for in a fantastic painter? Share your thoughts below.

The Top 4 Painters in Canberra

Our readers left a ton of comments recounting their experiences with painters in the Canberra region. We read them all, and put together this list.

1. Australian Premier Painting

Wow – Australian Premier Painting was the most highly recommended painting company by our commenters. The team’s skill, professionalism, price, and attitude was praised.

One commenter, AnneB, had this to say, “After reading RiotACT for a long time and listening to reviews about tradies, I just wanted to follow up. I contacted Dilan from Australian Premier Painting and can’t recommend him highly enough. He turned up when he said he would (early each time), quoted very reasonably and was thoroughly professional and polite to engage with.”

Another commenter, painting, couldn’t believe how fast Australian Premier Painting got the job done. “They were quick and clean and a pleasure to have in the house,” they wrote. “They painted both interior and exterior of a reasonably large four-bedroom house – four days for each job.” That sounds good to us.

2. Canberra Painting Services (CPS)

CPS has served the Canberra region for nearly two decades. Today, their competent team works with commercial, real estate, body corporate, and private clients.

Dedicated to perfect results, CPS offer interior and exterior painting, as well as water damage repair, and specialist render repairs and coatings.

CPS is also priced competitively. One of our readers, niknak, got six quotes before deciding to work with Canberra Painting Services. The good news is, they were happy with their decision. “The painters did a fabulous job, especially because it hadn’t been painted in 50 years and there was a bit of restoration work to be done too.”

3. APS Painters

Servicing Canberra and surrounding areas, APS Painters offer comprehensive painting services. In addition to interior and exterior work, their experienced team is equipped to perform repairs, plastering, and event expert colour consulting.

Here’s what commenter mmover had to say: “A.P.S Painters has done some work for me and my brother in law which we were both really happy with. They painted inside of both houses as well as the outside of one. Great job.”

I’ve hired Scott from APS Painters before as he was the only who responded to my request for quotes and had a fair price. Was a delight to have in our home.

I used Ali from Kingdom Painting Services for both inside and outside of my house I cant stress how great of a job him and his guys did. I emailed them using gumtree received an email back organising the time for the quotation, he showed up on time explained what he was going to do and witch products he was going to use and the timeline he was going to finish in. his price was not the cheapest but it was reasonable and I liked the way he explained everything to me before starting the work. They started on the outside and finished it in three days as I am a fussy person I made sure I had a look around to see that everything was done right and I could not find any mistakes.
The interior part of the work was also done with the same great quality they put drop sheets everywhere they worked covered my furniture with plastic drop sheets did the two coats and not a drop of paint on my timber floors witch I was extremely happy about.

Their number is 0416 944 655
email is Kingdom_Painting_Services@hotmail.com

I also used Ali From Kingdom Painting Services and they did do a fantastic job on the entire exterior and interior of my home in Lawson.
I actually took your advice from this page and decided to give him a call as well as some others I thought It would be best If I got at least three different quotations to compare prices. His price turned out to be very competitive and like you said in your post he had a lot of knowledge of witch products to use and how to use them was very friendly and explained what he was going to do and how to do it the proper way.
I can’t stress how important the painting of my home was to me and how I wanted a top quality job and Ali and his team did an absolutely great job.
I would recommend him to anyone looking for a quality painter call Ali on 0416944655

Alpha Painting did a terrific job at our place both internally and externally. Will provided very sound advice and nothing was too much trouble. As part of his service cracks are patched and he doesn’t take short cuts. This is a man who takes pride in his work and I would recommend him to anyone.

The question asks for any good painters. As for those negative women above who just want to talk about people, it would be good to be positive. I recommend Robee’s Painting Services. Lovely painting work, very neat, finishes work, you can trust, affordable, modern, pleasant to be around. Have no problems at all. Very happy. All people who have had positive experiences with this business please say so, it would be good of you.

The above three females are accusing a good painter of not being good. I got Robee’s Painting Services to paint the inside and outside of my house. He did an excellent job. Clean, tidy, beautiful painting, honest, finished the job, shows up, reliable worker, professional, no harassment of any kind at all, good fair price. I recommend Robee’s Painting Services to anyone. I wanted to post this along time ago when I first saw the question about recommending a good painting business but didn’t realize that I didn’t do it properly and that my comment didn’t show. I RECOMMEND ROBEE’S PAINTING SERVICES TO ANY ONE.

Further to Northsidechick post of 07 Feb 12 #4. I am aware that one must be careful of slanderous accusations. However there is a problem here that Canberra woman must become aware of.

Be very very careful if you are thinking of allowing this person into your home. Especially if you are a woman and live alone. I am nearly 70 years of age and his initial friendliness and interest turned step by step into molestation and insult. At first he touched my arm and made comments about my body saying that he wanted to have sex with me. I told him to stop and get back to work. He laughed and said “just a joke”… “I like you, you very lovely lady”.

Later he came up behind me, touching and pressing himself against me. Every time he was told “No: or “stop” he would say “just a joke” and then share stories or pictures of his wife, children and his other family members.

As his behaviour got creepier and I felt the situation accelerating, I called a younger friend. When she arrived he made inappropriate and sexually suggestive remarks to her. When she objected, he said “just a joke” and laughed and said “you are all like family”.

We decided to get out of the house while he finished the painting. We went to another friend’s home who surprisingly said that she had had a similar experience when he quoting on a painting job for her house. She said his behaviour was “extremely unprofessional”, “unusual” and a bit scary. He had tried to kiss her and touch her. When she told him to stop he displayed his family photos. Armed with this new knowledge we returned to the house and decided if he continued we would call the police. He was less intrusive at this point and we were happy he was finished and could be rid of him. After he left, we found some paint splatter on the carpet and a dislodged light fitting.

Since this experience I have heard about other women who have had the same experience. Some have reported him to the Police and some have taken out Restraining Orders. All, like me, are reluctant to lay Charges because of a fear of reprisal. Sadly, it is also probable that some woman have been seduced and worn down by his man’s game. It is clear that this painter has and continues to prey on vulnerable women. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL! WARN YOUR FEMALE FRIENDS & RELATIVES.
