The Canberra Raiders have announced that Mal Meninga is coming back to the club in an official capacity:
Meninga will be a club ambassador with a diverse role ranging from assisting the coaching staff coaching, enhancing recruitment programs and aiding administration in the commercial division.
“Club ambassador; it’s a lovely title isn’t it. I’m very pleased to be back involved with the club. It’s more a consultancy role across the whole spectrum of the club as opposed to being involved in a specific area of the business.”
“I’m glad to be a sounding board for Dave [Furner] and the coaching staff and to be able to be of assistance to the players.”
“Recruitment is an important element too. I’m a Queenslander that came down to Canberra looking for an opportunity. There’s a lot of stigma about Canberra because it’s cold and all that sort or rubbish and hopefully I can allay all that. I played my entire NRL career here and I think it’s a fabulous place to play rugby league at. Through my own personal experience I can recommend to the players that it’s going to be a really good experience coming here.”
