Bogans Shouldn’t Get Grabby on Anzac Day

By 54-11 - 27 April 2011 20

News.com has the story that some lowlife mugged a lady on a pedestrian bridge, only to be caught by a good samaritan soldier who happened to be handy.

Just hope that he (our lad in uniform) was quite handy and gave the crim a reminder to be a bit more patriotic on Anzac Day.

UPDATE: ACT Policing have finally pushed their media release out:

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for aggravated robbery yesterday afternoon (Monday, April 25).

About 4.00pm police responded to a disturbance at a Belconnen Mall car park pedestrian bridge. On arrival police took over custody of a man that had been detained by a member of the public.

The man allegedly approached and threatened a female with a knife before grabbing her handbag and running away. A member of the public responded to the female’s calls for help, after which he tackled the man and detained him until police arrived.

The man was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House and will face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (Wednesday, April 27).

The member of the public who initially detained the man is a serving member of the Royal Australian Army.

What’s Your opinion?

Obviously staged. A PR stunt, to try to ameliorate the fact that the toxic environment of the military invariably produces only thugs, perverts and sociopaths

Wow, thats one heck of an all encompassing statement. Done any service? Can you back that up with experience or are you referring to someone elses anecdotes?

When did this habit of using that instead of who when dealing with people arise?

No need to be nasty, he did a good deed after all.

I’m guessing around the same time that a person of the male gender is called ‘a man’, while a person of the female gender is called ‘a female’.

‘Royal Australian Army’ indeed!

APF press releases are produced by people who aren’t even competent enough to make it into the Defence Communications Unit or the ACT Government comms units. And that’s saying something.

Should that be AFP press releases 😉 ?

The *Royal* Australian Army? The Australian Army isn’t Royal, though most of its corps are.

Though I suppose if ACT Policing can’t get someone to proof read their media releases, they’re hardly going to get someone to fact-check them.

That had raised my eyebrow too.

But the poor armed robber could have come from a broken home and had a really tewibble upbringing, and have unresolved personality issues.

I think it’s so unfair of the soldier to assault him, it could damage his self esteem.

Perhaps some counselling is needed, and the soldier could pay him for his loss of income.

Bloody hell! An armed rob in daylight in a crowded car park. That’s desperate stuff indeed.

And huge credit to the digger who took this arsehat on. My hat is off to him.

Ditto, excellent to hear some people will still take action, rather than pulling out their mobile phones and standing around uselessly.

No doubt the criminal’s lawyer will encourage him to try suing the serviceman for something. Lawyers have really improved things for all of us.

Good on the lad for stepping in.

I love these types of stories. Restores a tiny smidge of my faith in humanity.
