The Liberals’ Brendan Smyth is scenting blood over how dodgy defibrillators came to be fitted in the ACT’s ambulances:

Millions of dollars of public funds have been allowed to be spent on cardiac monitors with alleged faults, including, batteries which lost power, monitor leads which couldn’t be cleaned and required disposal after use, faulty blood pressure readings and transmission failures.

“Simon Corbell must guarantee that there will not be further problems stemming from the deployment of these defibrillators. He must also give certainty that no adverse patient outcomes have resulted from the MRx Monitor problems thus far.

“Ultimate responsibility rests on Simon Corbell, and he is answerable about procurement and the issues with this lifesaving equipment,” Mr Smyth concluded.

So where is the TGA in all of this? Aren’t they supposed to have an on-going role in monitoring the medical devices that they approve?
