Well looks like my six year old Simpson fridge is struggling a bit. The compressor’s still going strong, the seals are all good but I think I have a thermostat issue. After doing a bit of googling (is that still a noun or is it a recognised verb?), Mayner and Cochran appear quite a bit but given their past reviews here on RA I’m a bit hesitant to call them first. It’s also a bit hard to judge Google’s also-rans, as most of them appear through simple business directory type websites. So has anyone got a fridge mechanic/repair dude they’re willing to recommend? Love you long time RA.

What I found is that many places (including M&C) are booked solid for weeks in advance. I ended up ringing around just to find someone who could come out that day. I think we ended up with that guy who refurbs old white goods on Ipswich St – Renewed Appliances. Possibly not the best, but at least the fridge was fixed that day.
The Crimes ran a consumer voice story recently where a woman had her fridge repaired multiple times by a small and shonky repair firm. It took Mayner and Cochran to fix it properly apparently.
