Scary Canberra airport IL76 takeoff on runway 17 ie the short one
Well she almost ended at Madura.
Not sure how you can say it almost ended in Madura considering the IL76 was taking off to the South and the takeoff procedure is standard practice for an IL76 on a runway that short.
It seems to me that the runway is exactly the length it needs to be. Good on them for saving a few bucks.
Thats awesome. Still amazes me that those giant hunks of metal fly. Yeah, yeah physics, etc… but, it’s a giant hunk of metal! Flying!
What else can you expect from Ukrainians.
Put the wind up the control tower.
The worrying bit is they are now part of the EU.
Hey! They were in the control tower! Larrikins.
That was an amazing bit of footage… I liked the comments, too!
I wonder what’s the back story?
Wow that was dangerous but amazing.
“I’m running out of film, gee I hope I’ve got enough to film the crash”
On know it is an old one – probably 2001.
I just came across it today and thought I would share.
Has it been on riotact before?
Nice bit of video and flying anyway.
A few inaccuracies!!
Runway 17 is the main North/South Runway… it’s taking off over the road to Queanbeyan.
Because it’s taking off that way, the hill you see is not Majura.
It’s also old… you can see the runway has not yet been extended in that video yet…
what or who was on this plane….a few fat pollies?
So much black humour – the commentary alone is worth it. 🙂
I reckon the pilot would have been a bit nervous when he saw the grass rapidly approaching and the nose was only just off the tarmac.
Cool plane. Only just enough tarmac to take off on. Nice. When was this video taken? Are those Chinook Heli’s I can see as well?
