Cryptic street sign

On a traffic island in Franklin St in Manuka, at its intersection with Flinders Way, there is a solitary street sign facing the Manuka Plaza side of the intersection. It’s been there for a long time and looks permanent, and has often puzzled me.

It proclaims Buses not excepted

What I want to know is: not excepted from what?

It doesn’t even appear that there is a sign missing that it could be referring to. It’s a mystery.

well sam is the bus man, so he probably has the best guess.

i hate ‘waiting for godot’, he never turns up. what a pointless play.

i think the sign was planted by the ACT Light Rail Coalition. The first of many.

Sounds like it has been pulled off the bottom of a “no entry” sign…but even then it is odd as the interchanges say “No Entry, Buses Excepted”…so this is a reverse and possiblt altered sign?

Maybe if somebody gets booked for some reason over that sign they might have to explain what it means.

It’s very much like that. And like the art behind the counter at The Gods’ Cafe, which just keeps flashing “Coming Soon”…

Either means buses not ‘expected’ (i.e. no point in waiting for one here); or buses not ‘accepted’ (i.e. don’t drive your bus onto this traffic island).
More likely though, that some pisscat dug it up from elsewhere and parked the sign there just for a larf.

Political statement from OLO (omnibus liberation organisation).. all seriousness aside…it is pretty random
